A Distant War
Lecture performance, 2019
Notes on the logistics of perception in modern warfare. How lens-based technology changed what it means to watch a war, from the camera obscura to satellite television.
The text starts in a childhood garden, where my Dutch and German grandparents told their war stories every birthday, and ends with the Gulf and Iraq wars on our living-room screen. I wrote it as my MFA thesis at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and gave it as a lecture performance at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in 2019.
