Alliances of Vulnerable Bodies

Film, 2017

The film opens up a space between two rooms of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts: Kuppelsalen, where the portraits of the Academy’s royal and official history hang, and the Academy’s own photo and film studio.

It looks at the Academy’s patriarchal history and at how male bodies have been shown there for as long as the institution has existed. It starts with the first woman made professor, in 1990, moves through the portraits of the men who mattered before her, and sets them against a queer position: a student at the Academy today.
