How is the violence of war passed on to people who never lived through it? The installation follows that question through my own family. My Dutch grandmother was sent out for groceries as a girl and came back to find rubble where her home had been. My brother turned thirteen on 11 September 2001, the day that led to the war on terror, a war my generation watched on screens in our living rooms.

The three films move through places that hold these histories: a Second World War memorial, a war museum, a childhood garden, and a trench that turns into a network. Each film plays on a small screen mounted on a steel tripod. Visitors walk between the three structures and lean in to watch.

Shown at Afgang 2019, the graduation exhibition of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
